Biography
Willie Jamaal Wright is Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Florida. His research interests include critical theories of space, black geographies/studies, and community economies across the Diaspora. In 2023, he was the recipient of an Andy Warhol Arts Writers Grant and the American Association of Geographers’ Glenda Laws Award for research on social issues. His writing has been published in the Annals of the American Association of Geographers, City & Society, The Professional Geographer, and The Black Scholar. His manuscript in progress, Valorizing the Void: Place and Public Art in Houston’s Third Ward, is a historical geography of black contemporary art and uneven geographical development in Houston, Texas.
